Overview
After her daughter bleeds out from a miscarriage in Texas, Patricia Scott kills the doctor who had failed to perform a medically necessary abortion.
Her next target is the attorney who'd advised against the abortion out of personal ambition.
Lizzie Vaughn, an investigator with her own dark past, is hired by the doctor's widow after police label her husband's death a suicide.
Lizzie's hunt for the killer becomes more complicated and dangerous when she is also tapped to find a young woman with a heart condition who has been kidnapped to prevent her from ending a life-threatening
pregnancy and whose fate intertwines with Patricia's plans for revenge.
Can Lizzie and Patricia set aside their individual quests to prevent another tragedy?
Review
The season of thrillers is in full swing and the releases keep getting better. Deadly Choice is a thriller that hits hard covering a few hard hitting subjects one of which is abortion.
Patricia Scott is sent into a vengeful frenzy after her daughter bleeds out following a miscarriage and Patricia blames the Dr who was over seeing daughters treatment and blames her death on him and hunts him down.
Lizzie and Murphy dust themselves off and get themselves ready to embark on another thrilling adventure as they begin to piece together this investigation, the further they dig the more it becomes apparent that some things aren't as they should be and some things are left well alone, was it indeed a suicide as once thought or something far more sinister?
This book was an introduction to the author D Lee Manning as I hadn't come across her work before but I was impressed with how this book was crafted it sends you on a twisty turny journey that keeps you guessing throughout but still makes sense. The book was set up in a very clever way building a little background that enabled the main story to flourish.
As far as thrillers go this brought pretty much everything to the table, intense storyline, different veins of story that has you thinking throughout, great character building allowing you to relate to each character as they own their individual parts. If you like thrillers with a bit more substance then you are in the right place.
Summary
Time now then to put my thoughts into a summary, overall I enjoyed the book it gave me what I wanted from a thriller but also kept me thinking which kept me engaged throughout, the characters were great I especially enjoyed the Lizzie and Murphy duo I thought this pairing really worked and would love to see more of these. I'd definitely recommend picking this one up.
