It becomes a way to siphon users' tokens on the wallet away from unknown wallet addresses. TL;DR Airdrop is no longer a way to receive cryptos. Instead, scammers use this to embed a smart contract and execute the transfer function to take your cryptos away. Also, most airdrop tokens cannot be sold. Here is a 1 min summary of the article if you want to skip the reading. Airdrop Tokens The way airdrop works were to promote tokens and expand the user base. But, more importantly, it offers users a promise for tokens to be usable. Newbie FOMO FOMO is very bad, particularly in the crypto space. Cryptocurrency is a security protocol that allows developers to transfer secrete communication from one end without revealing their private information. To use cryptocurrency properly, one has to understand what it was programmed and how it should work. Unfortunately, newbies are brought into crypto because of the hype rather than understanding the technology. Airdrop Smart Contract Tokens run on a smart contract that is more likely to embed hidden codes that execute wallet and withdrawal tokens away. The malicious entity can program a token that users accept and want to sell for profits immediately. By selling tokens in the exchange platform, one will execute a smart contract embedded in the token that triggers hidden functions either overtake control of the wallet or executes transactions that users were not intended to do. People want to make money, but it is easier for hackers and scammers to take advantage of. Fake Tokens For Well Known Crypto Sites Tokens for MetaMask, OpenSea, Ethereum Web3, and many more to come, but those tokens are likely fake tokens that you receive and cannot sell for profits. Instead, they are scam tokens that will charge you costly gas fees to transact tokens or simply smart contracts to take away your crypto. In Conclusion No FOMO. Airdrops are no longer a viable way to receive free crypto or tokens. You need to be aware of scammers and learn crypto from ground zero. The sporting goods giant did not disclose the terms of the deal. But given RTFKT's track record in the NFT space, almost everyone agrees this buyout reflects part of Nike's strategic push towards the Metaverse. Commenting on the acquisition, RTFKT co-founder, Benoit Pagotto, said both firms share commonalities in innovation, creativity, and community. Pagotto added that the move would see RTFKT expand its Metaverse operations. "Nike is the only brand in the world that shares the deep passion we all have for innovation, creativity and community, and we're excited to grow our brand which was fully formed in the metaverse." Nike is no stranger to NFTs RTKFT was founded in January 2020 by friends Benoit Pagotto, Chris Le, and Steven Vasilev. Their collective vision was to create next-generation Metaverse designs. "RTFKT uses the latest in game engines, NFT , blockchain authentication and augmented reality, combined with manufacturing expertise to create one of a kind sneakers and digital artifacts." The firm also bridges the physical world in what they call "forging." This involves certain NFTs being created into physical items that the NFT owner can redeem and own in the real world. In 2019, Nike made waves with the "Crypotkicks" patent. The details of the patent show a system linking secured digital assets to physical products. Seemingly, this will be used to track ownership and verify authenticity. Two years ago, the Metaverse link wasn't so obvious. But, through this application, buying a pair of Cryptokicks in the real world means also owning them in the virtual world – thus bridging both worlds to a degree. "When a consumer buys a genuine pair of shoes a digital representation of a show may be generated, linked with the consumer, and assigned a cryptographic token, where the digital shoe and cryptographic token collectively represent a 'CryptoKick." What is Nike's vision for the Metaverse? Given the mainstream coverage of the Metaverse, the term is fast gaining ground as a buzzword to describe a futuristic virtual world. Admittedly, the technology isn't there yet to the extent depicted in films such as Ready Player One. But futurists say the technology is converging to get to that point, with 2022 set to be a defining period in making that happen. According to The Verge, Nike execs are buying into the idea that, in the future, Metaverse users will play games or enter virtual spaces where their NFT items will materialize after ownership rights (connected to a wallet) have been verified. It follows that just as bragging rights on the latest Nike drops exist in the real world, so too will they exist in the Metaverse. The purchase, that is set to occur in the new year, if effective, might make the Gibraltar Stock Exchange the first bourse where cryptocurrencies and stocks could be traded with cryptocurrencies. Regulators are currently reviewing this offer. Gibraltar Could Become a Crypto Haven Gibraltar might make history as the territory in which the first mixed bourse, with crypto assets and stocks available for investors, operates. The main bourse of the British territory, the Gibraltar Stock Exchange, has received a purchase offer from Valereum, a blockchain firm. The firm, which is based in Gibraltar, would be seeking to acquire 80% of the said bourse, with its actual owner, the Global Stock Exchange Group, keeping 20% of the company. The two companies signed an option for this acquisition back in October, where the company announced its intention of completing this deal. However, the details of the acquisition had not been released to the public. The option reveal document states: The exercise of the Option and the acquisition of 80% of the GSX (the "Acquisition") are subject to approval by the Gibraltar Financial Services Commission ("GFSC"). Valereum will seek approval from GFSC to establish the GSX as one of the world's first fully regulated, integrated fiat and digital exchanges. The report also stated that the group will seek to integrate cryptocurrency in the bourse if the deal passes. Regulatory Complications The possible approval of the deal by regulators of the country has caused a series of reactions from experts and people observing the outcome. Richard Poulden, chairman of Valereum, is extremely positive about the deal, and has stated that this is a step in the evolution of digital assets in their way of becoming tradeable at a worldwide scale. However, not all are so optimistic about this probable deal. Many are hesitant about the effect that this could have on the oversight that other global regulator groups, like the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), could exert on the country. Charlie Steele, a partner at Forensic Risk Alliance, a consulting firm says: It could enable or facilitate money laundering, sanctions evasion, terrorist financing, so everyone's wary of that as well, Valereum also signed a purchase agreement with the Juno Group, a trust management company that will be able to provide custody services for the cryptocurrency assets acquired in the exchange, even if the deal needs to be ratified by regulators.
