Highly anticipated 'Maria Clara at Ibarra,' GMA's historical fantaserye, airs Oct. 3
The much-anticipated historical fantaserye "Maria Clara at Ibarra" is set to be shown starting on October 3 at 8pm. The GMA prime time series stars Dennis Trillo, Julie Anne San and Barbie Forteza.
Asked if there was pressure playing Ibarra, Dennis said "nahirapan ako dun sa part that I would look like Jose Rizal, and of course, to escape the pressure, I would diligently read the script before the taping." As the series is based on Rizal's novels Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo, Dennis was delighted that these are now easily available to those who would want to read them, as these books could be read on Facebook or other digital platforms. The same with history books that the production researched to provide other glimpses on Jose Rizal's time.
Dennis revealed that they also had Spanish lessons online before their tapings. Historians were also consulted. He also said this is his first show that required the longest locked-in taping. "Ang layo ng Ilocos, I felt so homesick, and I terribly missed my children."
Julie Anne plays Maria Clara delos Santos Alba, the Maria Clara of 1887, while Barbie is Maria Clara "Klay" Infantes, the Maria Clara of 2022. Julie Anne is the Maria Clara at the time of Dr. Jose P. Rizal; Barbie is the Maria Clara representing the Gen Z, of her Klay vlog era.
Barbie, who Dennis described as one with a great future in acting, is elated to be working for the first time with Dennis who she considers her crush and idol. She's so grateful to GMA, she said, for making her part of the series. In addition, she said, "I admire GMA for not stopping in doing relevant and important milestone shows like 'Maria Clara at Ibarra.' I feel so blessed and happy to be in its cast but I would also like to say I was challenged by my role as Klay."
Also in the cast in the of the much-awaited historical fantaserye are: Ces Quesada as Tiya Isabel; Rocco Nacino as Elias; Juancho Trivino as Padre Salvi; David Licauco as Fidel; Juan Rodrigo as Kapitan Tiyago; Lou Veloso as Mr. Jose Torres; Gilleth Sandico as Donya Victorino; and Tirso Cruz 111 as Padre Damaso.
