Dindo Arroyo: Most awarded actor since the pandemic
Just recently, noted veteran character Dindo Arroyo messaged me: "Tita, another award po!!! To God be the glory!"
He was referring to the latest award he received as "Outstanding and Iconic Veteran Actor of the Year" from the Asia's World Class Filipino Awards Season 2. He was understandably excited and honored of course, since he had continuously been receiving awards since 2022.
Before this, he had received awards and certificates of recognition for his credible and noteworthy performances of various roles in different movies. But even so, there was a time in his life that Dindo also experienced fear and anxiety.
He related: "During the pandemic, I was COVID positive. During my struggle to survive, I came to realize that I might not be so lucky to survive. And most of all, with no legacy, or award whatsoever to leave behind. So I prayed so hard for the Lord's will for me to survive. And if so, I will work hard to achieve or gain at least one award before I get so old. Thank God, I survived the COVID virus.
"After a year or so, some one called to say I deserve recognition for my contributions to the film and movie industries. I was awarded at the 70th FAMAS Awards in July 22, 2022. After that, I received eight awards and certificates of recognition one after the other. God always amazed me with his love and blessings!"
Among the awards Dindo has received include: Dakilang Filipino Awards given to him on October 17, 2022; Gintong Pilipino Awards as "Remarkable and Multi-Awarded Veteran Actor of The Year;" Gintong Parangal 2022 as "Mahusay na Beteranong Aktor as Pelikula," given August 13, 2022; and Asia's World Class Filipino Awards as "Outstanding Veteran Actor of the Year," given December 12, 2022.
Right now, Dindo is in the cast of "Batang Quiapo," playing the henchman of Christopher de Leon.
To recall, Dindo was discovered by Philip Salvador. He was an engineering student when he played sidekick to the late Eddie Garcia in the film "Ikasa Mo, Ipuputok Ko" in 1990. After that, he played alongside Philip Salvador, Lito Lapid, Bong Revilla, Rudy Fernandez and even Fernando Poe, Jr. which he considered a great honor.
In 2014, Dindo quit showbiz to undergo surgery when it was found out he had Stage 4 pancreatic cancer. He survived this, thanking God profusely for another big blessing in his life. His wife died in 2009. They have six children.
Noted for his "kontrabida" skills, Dindo made about 100 movies in a span of several decades of his acting career.
