Who knew it could be done?

Oppo Reno 10 Pro+

Oppo has been teasing the Reno10 series for quite a while now. Sure, the Reno9 exists but that series feels merely like a filler, like a Reno8.5 instead of something fully fleshed out. The Reno10 series is different and hence why Oppo is pretty confident in bringing this one globally.

One of its touted features is that all of its rear cameras are 100% functional. That means no annoying and useless 2MP fillers. That's a nice change of pace and we're hoping other brands follow. Another feature is the MariSilicon X ISP. By the way, the phone was announced right after the closure of the company's chipset manufacturing plant. This means that the phones must be in production prior to the closure.

OPPO Reno 10 Pro+

The phone is premium and touts flagship-tier specs in some areas, such as the display. The Reno 10 Pro+ features a 6.74" 2K (2772x1240px) OLED screen topped with a 120Hz refresh rate and Dolby Vision support.

The Reno8 series featured a flagship MediaTek chipset. Here, Oppo switched things around by using a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 flagship chipset with 16GB LPDDR5 RAM and either 256 or 512GB UFS 3.1 ROM. Of course, we're not expecting to see a MicroSD Card slot here.

The phone is built with a metallic chassis and textured glass back which helps it stand out among its midrange peers. Also, the Reno10 Pro+ comes in three colours: Twilight Purple, Midnight Black, and Gold. They are elegant, just the way Oppo makes them. Despite being metallic, the phone is light, weighing only 194g

The cameras here are the main highlights. All three phones feature a periscope lens and a rounded camera bump. For the Reno10 Pro+, the combination consists of a 50MP primary camera (f/1.8, 84°, Sony sensor, OIS), an 8MP ultrawide (f/2.2, 112°), and a 64MP periscopic telephoto lens (f/2.5, 33°, OIS). The 32MP selfie camera can sadly only take 1080p@30fps video. However, the rear cameras could capture up to 4K@60fps. All four cameras take advantage of the MariSilicon X NPU, the in-house chipset that made the flagship Find X6 series become one of the best mobile cameras released to date, according to DXOMark.

The battery capacity is not the unusual one we see. It's a 4700mAh battery with 100W fast charging. Only in a few years, mankind has achieved fast charging that makes 33W rates feel like 10W. The phone's charging capability even offsets many mainstream laptops!

Finally, the phone has a USB-C port, 5G mmWave connectivity, Wi-Fi 6/6e, Bluetooth 5.3, and an in-display fingerprint scanner. It has a dual Nano-SIM Card slot and runs ColorOS 13 based on Android 13.

As the phone is only recently released in China, we will have to wait for global availability (it is coming, though). The phone is available for CNY 3,899 (~PHP 30.8K) for the 16/256 trim, and CNY 4,299 (~PHP 34K) for the 16/512 trim.

OPPO Reno10 Pro

Coming in the middle is the OPPO Reno10 Pro. It retains some of the Pro+ best features such as the display, camera modules, and premium design but it does come with its own quirks so it is different from the top-of-the-line handset.

First, the telephoto camera is reduced to just 32MP but it has a narrower aperture and bigger field of view. The Primary and Ultrawide sensors remain the same. The chipset used here is the MediaTek Dimensity 8200. A chipset that is slightly less capable but nonetheless very competitive. Trim options are the same, 16/256 and 16/512.

The phone has a Sky Blue colour variant which is shared from the base Reno10 and replaces the Purple from the Pro+. Gold and Black are here to stay.

In China, the phone is priced at CNY 3,499 (~PHP 27.6K) for the 16/256 trim and CNY 3,899 (~PHP 30.8K) for the 16/512 trim.

SPECS:

  • 6.74" 2K (2772x1240px) AMOLED, 120Hz refresh rate, 240Hz touch sampling rate, 1400nits peak brightness, 1100nits HBM, 1.07 billion colours, 100% DCI-P3 Colour gamut

OPPO Reno10

The base phone looks identical to the Pro model (or should we say it the other way around). It is more affordable and so there were some things reduced to justify its price and remain premium.

The screen resolution has been reduced to just 2412x1080px. However, the refresh rate, the OLED material, and the touch sampling rate remain. The display is also not curved.

The chipset used is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G with far more flexible options. The phone is unique in that you have two types of storage options available. First, you have the 8/256 and 12/256 trim which has a less efficient LPDDR4x + UFS 2.2 storage combination, or 12GB LPDDR5 RAM and 512GB UFS 3.1 ROM. The chipset may not be new, but at least we're not seeing another Snapdragon 695. The Snapdragon 778G is still as competitive as newer midrange 5G chips.

The three cameras here remained mostly unchanged except for the primary camera which is now a 64MP sensor with no mention of OIS. Also, the primary camera can only capture up to 4K@30fps video now.

Battery capacity is the same as the Pro but charging speeds have been reduced to just 80W. Not a big difference but can be noticeable. The phone still has 5G capabilities, an in-display fingerprint sensor, and NFC.

It is available in Gold, Black, and Blue. In China, the phone is priced at CNY 2,499 (~PHP 19.7K) for the 8/256 trim, CNY 2,799 (~PHP 22.1K) for the 12/256 trim, and CNY 2,999 (~PHP 23.7K) for the highest-end 12/512 trim.

All three phones are yet to be seen globally.
