Review
Having had the opportunity to take a look at the preview build of Stranded Alien Dawn I was quite interested to take a look at the game now it has had it's full release.
One thing I took away from the preview was that the game is basically The Sims in space as it is far more than just a city building title, you get the overwhelming feeling that you are more playing God as you juggle the feelings of your village folk along with the structural side of things. So not only do you have to keep yourself prepared for the random Alien mammals that will appear and either damage your village or more importantly cause harm to the villagers you also have to keep an eye on the well being of your villages both physically and mentally meaning that although this game is very chilled you really can't switch off as there are alot of plates to keep spinning.

To survive and thrive in this game you must keep your villagers busy, you need to build, you need to scavenge for both materials and food and then you must develop - develop your skills but also develop and research weapons and new materials. The game seems to centre around more life styles rather than your standard RTS city building game, the emotions and well being of your villagers make a key part of the actual game and it's something you really need to keep an eye on a you progress through the game.

If you want something a bit more intense and action focused you can build a military base and train your soldiers to protect the base from the alien onslaught. Your small group of soldiers must build a communication station that will establish a communication stream with Earth protecting this is the main mission and of the upmost importance. The different scenarios on offer give a balance to the gameplay overall and will appeal to different types of players, some will like the calmness of building a new settlement but others will prefer the military base.
I found the overall game of Stranded Alien Dawn to be enlightening and engaging but also very fun, the combat is good when it happens but it really is more of a kick back and relax type of game as it feels pretty laid back as you can just sit back and enjoy looking over your new settlement, you do get a genuine sense of satisfaction seeing your settlement grow from straw beds to structured buildings and into an actual thriving village.
Graphics and Sound
The graphics of Stranded Alien Dawn are of a high quality, the game world is very well animated and looks great - a little jumpy in parts but I put that down to my PC rather than the game itself. The characters are well crafted and look good, I do like the fact that they all have their own personality which makes for interesting gameplay. The weather effects in game are some of the best I have seen.
The soundtrack is great, I could quite happily just load up the game put headphones and and just listen to the music (which I did do a few times) a fully relaxing vibe. The in game sound effects are good and the various sounds sound like they should do - although I've never been on an Alien planet to verify this.
Summary
Time now then to put my thoughts into a summary, overall I felt Stranded Alien Dawn is probably the most chilled out game I've ever played, the many different aspects of the game come together well to give the gamer a well balanced game that is constantly evolving and always interesting. If you like city builders and the Sims then you really need to take a look at this.
Verdict-Out of 5
