Hello. Hope all is well and you are safe.
Someone said bad attitude is despair, and I'm over here like that's deep. I've been working on characters who are miserable, and this adds a layer. I am now asking myself, why are these characters miserable AND in despair? What's really behind that attitude? That fake vigilance and entitlement?
I'm guessing the characters are hoping other characters can't see through them. That their is a chasm of pain is hidden. My theory is that it (the despair) will manifest in overt ways, and what the characters fear being revealed is seen and known.
Yes, these characters are not happy, but now I have to know why? I'm a let those thoughts marinate and eventually come up with something.
So, additional questions: Why so desperate? Are the characters managing desperation by acting out? By "managing," I mean not handling their personal issues. They put their attitude on display, and it's spilled everywhere as they sew chaos. Does the desperation begat more misery/despair?
What does this look like? Have they dehumanized others so others can feel like they do? Is it, "If I can't have happiness, neither can you?" Misery loves company, doesn't it. .
Heck of a topic and charter to explore. I'm enjoying this.
Happy creative endeavors.
