What is the gold standard?
Well, back in the day, it was a monetary system where the value of a country's currency was directly linked to a specific amount of gold.
Then, in the 20th century, things started to shift.
Countries faced economic challenges like the Great Depression and World Wars, and they needed more flexibility to manage their money supply.
In 1971, U.S. President Richard Nixon announced the ending of the direct convertibility of the U.S. dollar into gold.
This marked the end of the gold standard era and the beginning of the new era of fiat money.
So, how did this change the money we use today?
Well, without the gold standard, our money isn't tied to physical commodities anymore.
Instead, it's based on trust and the stability of the issuing government.
