That's one more camera for just one more leg to sacrifice!
Three days ago, Oppo announced the N3 Flip. At the same time, the N3 was announced. ALSO at the same time, the OnePlus Open was announced. The latter is intended for global users while the N3 stays in China. It's a foolproof strategy. Rebranding is also cheaper than making a new phone from the ground up.
Let's discuss first the N3 Flip since OnePlus does not have a counterpart for it. And because of that, the N3 Flip will be available for both Chinese and global users. Isn't that splendid? The N2 Flip is available in the Philippines so it makes sense that the N3 Flip is too.
The most notable highlights are the triple camera setup and Hasselblad collaboration. The collab was first seen with the OnePlus 9 Pro, with polarizing reception. Many said that it didn't feel too different versus a OnePlus phone without the Hasselblad branding, while others said that the collab has long-term effects for OnePlus' camera prowess. Because Oppo owns OnePlus, they have a share of the tech as well. The most noticeable addition to it was Hasselblad Colour Calibration which finetunes the image in accordance to Hasselblad's standards. The company is known for their cameras and lenses.
Going back to the spec sheet, the N3 Flip uses an "aircraft-grade" aluminum with little to no visible creases. It is also designed with the best durability in mind. Oppo calls it "Flexion" and has been tested to last at least 600,000 folds.
The N3 Flip has a larger cover screen than the N2 Flip and is arranged similarly. With the cover screen, it's like having a mini phone while the actual phone is flipped and you can access third-party social media apps like Twitter (sadly now called X), Facebook, and Instagram, as well as Google apps. In addition, you can use the camera app and take selfies with the quality of the rear cameras! It makes the selfie camera redundant and that is still an issue even during the Android flip phone's heyday.
If you've played around with your N2 Flip, you'll find interactive pets on the cover screen. Now that has been made into 3D for the N3 Flip so you can really feel the pet as if they are real. Also, like the main screen, you can access notifications and incoming phone calls here. The display is a 3.26" SD (720x382px) OLED with 60Hz refresh rate and is protected by a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass Victus.
Meanwhile, the main display measures 6.8" and uses LTPO3 OLED. Its resolution is 2520x1080px and has a refresh rate of 120Hz. HDR10+ and 12-bit colour are supported. Instead of Gorilla Glass, the main display uses SCHOTT UTG.
Cameras are not always prioritized for flip phones, for some reason. Often, they are inferior against regular flagships. However, the N3 Flip changed that with its triple camera experience. As mentioned several times, it implements Hasselblad's colour calibration techniques. At the back, you'll find a 50MP Primary Camera with OIS, a 32MP telephoto, and a 48MP Ultrawide camera. If these aren't flagship-grade, we don't know what is. Also, in case you prefer using your flip phone like a traditional Android, you can use the 32MP front camera for selfies and vlogs.
If you guessed before, during, or even after the leaks that the N3 Flip uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, then you're mistaken. Here, you can find the MediaTek Dimensity 9200 which is just as competitive. Not only that, it uses a 4nm TSMC process. Both are still yet to release their fresh 3nm flavour of chipsets. The phone has 12GB RAM and 256GB ROM.
Somehow, Oppo managed to fit in a 4300mAh battery to this flip phone which is very impressive. Though, not as big as your regular smartphone, the capacity is more than enough for a flip phone. It also charges on a 44W SuperVOOC USB-C 3.0 port. The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 for instance, still uses a 3700mAh battery and 25W of fast charging.
The N3 Flip comes in Cream Gold, Misty Pink, and Sleek Black. The back plate is made of metal so it's premium and sleek, as the black colour suggests. Not only that, it can withstand some splashes thanks to its IPX4 rating that is quite important to protect the mechanical parts found inside and around the hinge.
It has no release date yet, nor price, for Philippine audiences. So stay tuned!
