Synopsis
Freya Bauer's revolutionary fervor has dimmed with age, but just as she's about to hang up her DedSec mask, she's recruited for one last mission to Berlin… with her ex-husband of all people. Yet upon her arrival in Germany, a series of betrayals mean she's suddenly unable to distinguish between friends and foes.
Meanwhile, Freya's past has caught up with her – in the form of a mysterious hitman determined to take out the Bauer family in London. However, if he can't immediately remove Freya from the board, her son might be the next best thing. Freya must navigate competing tech-gangs, reconcile with her ex, and save her son before everything she loves is destroyed.

Review
If you thought that the Watchdogs series of games were intense and all out action with an entwining story then brace yourself as Cold Reboot is cranked up to max volume.
The story starts pretty tame as ex DedSec operative Freya Bauer is coaxed back into the fold for one last "easy" job with one slight catch it's in Berlin and it's with her ex husband Will who so happens to be the only other person suitable for this mission. Wellend is an expert in selling a convincing dream to those who doubt, reluctantly Freya decides to go on the mission with her son over in university and her mother well looked after it seemed the right thing to do, if she can only get on with the ex that is.
Infiltrating the VERT hq should be a walk in the park for these two hardened hackers, why shouldn't it go smoothly? every other mission has and if it did go west Freya and Will were more than capable of dealing with any threat, it would go smoothly if the situation they were walking into was what they thought it was. As the two elite hackers land in Berlin they go to make their way to VERT but all is not as it seems and life for the two hackers is about to get alot more uncomfortable as the mission rapidly descends into the brown stuff.
The mission going dramatically west isn't the only thing Freya needs to be thinking about for little does she know an elite hitman is hot on the trail of her family, her son and mother those that are dear to her are in grave danger and Freya is at this point unaware of the dangers going on back home as her last comes back to haunt her, she has been betrayed in the worse way possible could this betrayal have come from someone close to her? The evidence is stacking up that this whole thing could have been an elaborate set up all along.
The characters of Freya and Will feels so relatable that it gives a more realistic feel to the story that feels a bit scary at times as it feels a little too real. The on page chemistry between Freya and Will just works albeit slightly fraught you can still feel the embers burning between them. All the characters in the book play their part at building a story that has many facets and many dark turns.
This book was an introduction to the writing works of Robbie MacNiven and I can gladly say he's gone straight to the top of my authors to watch list, the story is a thrill ride building pace from the start, you will sit there reading with your mouth aghast the shock within the pages are very real with the story taking many dramatic twists and turns.
Summary
Time now then to put my thoughts into a summary, this is by far my favourite book of the moment an intense read with so many dark twists that it's constantly surprising you with each page turn. I would love to see this story maybe turned into the next Watchdogs game or even a TV series, a full on thrill ride from beginning to end a must have for any Watch Dogs fans or even those wanting to get into it, I'm off to play more Watch Dogs now it's definitely given me the bug.
