*Versus competing brands
The Honor Magic V2 is such a stellar foldable isn't it? While we heard that it will be available in select European markets, we never would have thought that The Philippines of all places, would be getting the taste of the world's thinnest foldable phone! Bringing the Magic V2 in the Philippines is a bold move as this would position Honor as a luxury brand competing against the big boys like Samsung and BBK Electronics!
It seems that every brand has a message to say to the world, a message that says "this is not our limit, and we can go further". Transsion did this with their Tecno Phantom Flip, the most affordable clamshell and that too was brought here in the Philippines.
To start, the Magic V2 is only 4.7mm thick unfolded and weighs only 231 grams! That is featherweight! Also when folded, it's only 9.9mm. The "thinnest phone" record was previously held by Huawei with the Mate X3.
Aside from its premium design, weight, and thickness, what else does this phone have to offer? Well, the display is OLED, something typical of flagship phones. When unfolded like a tablet, the display measures 7.92" and when folded, used similarly like a phone, it's 6.43". Folded or unfolded, the refresh rate is the same at an adaptive 120Hz.
The folding phone was released prior to the mass production of Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and so it will be equipped with the previous generation's Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, the latest flagship chipset at the time.
Of course, we can't talk about flagship phones without discussing the cameras. In the case of the Honor Magic V2, there are three actual functioning cameras that are not gimmicky or filler. There are two 50MP cameras and a single 20MP telephoto. The primary and telephoto support both EIS and OIS for a stable video shoot. Meanwhile the front features a 16MP selfie with 4K video capabilities. Aside from these usual cameras, the Magic V2 features a temperature sensor and a 3D Time-of-Flight sensor at the back to eliminate flicker and enable instantaneous focusing.

Inside the phone, despite of this thinness, Honor has managed to fit the 5000mAh battery inside and its USB-C port even has support for 66W fast charging! The way Honor did it is that they divided this battery into two cells. Also, this is no ordinary battery. Instead of the usual Li-Ion or Li-Po found on many other smartphones, this one is composed of Silicon and Carbon (an SiC battery if you will). This allowed Honor to increase the capacity without also thickening the battery, an efficient yet still expensive process.
It is also one of the rare Honor phones to include an IR Blaster which is nifty to control appliances in case you lose their remote controls. It has an in-display fingerprint reader, 5G services, Wi-Fi 7, and Bluetooth 5.3. It lacks a headphone jack which is pretty typical to almost any type of phone nowadays, which is a shame.
Catch the phone as it launches on February 21 in the Philippines! Tune in on the live announcement here and get a chance to win exciting freebies! We will also let you know of the price once the phone is available for pre-ordering.
Note: the launch event does not mention of the Ultimate variant. It's essentially the same exact phone but with a new colour scheme and price. That's probably why Honor Philippines does not mention nor include it in their promo materials and may never launch here.
