Tinatayang aabot sa P3.72 bilyong halaga ng mga smuggled e-cigarettes o vapes na mula sa China ang nadiskubre ng mga tauhan ng Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS) sa sabayang inspeksiyon na isinagawa sa mga bodegang matatagpuan sa mga lungsod ng Parañaque at Malabon kamakalawa.
Ayon kay Bureau of Customs (BOC) Commissioner Bien Rubio, ang pag-iisyu ng Letters of Authority (LOAs) laban sa mga naturang bodega ay bahagi ng agenda ng bureau upang ispesipikong targetin ang mga smuggled e-cigarettes o vapes.
"This is an ongoing, an active investigation and inspection. We are not yet done examining these warehouses, but we will be able to determine at the soonest time possible the exact amount of smuggled vapes they contain," pagbabahagi niya.
Idinetalye naman ni BOC-CIIS Director Verne Enciso na sa mga warehouse na matatagpuan sa Olivares Compound, San Dionisio, Parañaque City, nadiskubre ang tinatayang 1.5 milyong piraso ng Flava brand na e-cigarettes na may assorted flavors.
"To be more precise, there were around 15,000 boxes of vapes, with 100 pieces per box. That's a total of 1.5 million pieces of vapes. The current market value is P500 per piece, so that's a total of P750 million. Add to that the excise tax that should be collected, and the total estimated sum up value would be P1.53 billion," aniya pa.
Ipinaliwanag pa ni Enciso na ang excise tax ay nagkakahalaga ng P520 kada 10ML o isang piraso, kaya't ang pamahalaan ay dapat na nakakolekta ng nasa P780 milyon mula sa 1.5 milyong piraso ng smuggled vapes.
Klinaro naman niya na ito ay mula lamang sa isa sa mga bodega sa Parañaque City. Ang iba pang bodega ay susuriin pa lamang nila.
Ang BOC-CIIS ay mayroon ring ongoing inspection sa ilang bodega na matatagpuan sa Superb Catch Inc., Compound 46, Hernandez St., Barangay Catmon, Malabon City.
Ani Enciso, isa sa mga bodega ay natuklasang naglalaman ng humigit-kumulang sa 19,800 kahon, na may 100 piraso ng vapes kada box, sa isinagawang inisyal na imbentaryo.
Sa halagang P550 bawat isa, ang 1.98 milyong piraso ng vape ay may total market value na P1.089 bilyon.
Bilang karagdagan, P520 halaga ng excise tax kada item ang dapat na nakolekta para sa kabuuang P1,029,600,000.
Ang market value at excise tax ng smuggled vape products ay may kabuuang halaga ng P2,118,600,000.
Nakadiskubre rin ang grupo ng isang temporary unplug cold storage unit na ginagamit bilang storage facility at naglalaman ng di pa matukoy na dami ng vape products.
May nakita rin umano silang wing van truck na nagbababa ng stocks ng vape products sa isinagawang inspeksiyon.
"Our team today scores a win against these smugglers. There's a huge popularity of e-cigarettes or vapes among Filipinos, especially the younger generations, these days, so we are here to make sure they only get access to the safest products in the market," pahayag ni Deputy Commissioner Juvymax Uy for Intelligence Group.
Nag-isyu rin si Rubio ng warning laban sa mga grupo at indibidwal na nasa likod ng naturang mga aktibidad.
"I hope this seizure serves as a reminder to those who look to circumvent our laws that BOC is steadfast in its commitment to enforce our responsibility of border protection," aniya, at idinagdag na, "We will continue to work with our law enforcement partners to bring smugglers to justice."
