Giant robot franchise Gundam is coming to Season 3 of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III's Warzone battle royale mode. The collab, which starts on May 29, was announced via the franchise's official X, formerly Twitter, account earlier today.
For those unfamiliar with it, Gundam is a massive multi-media franchise focusing on warfare fought with giant mecha called "mobile suits." The franchise began in 1979 with the original Mobile Suit Gundam animé series. While that series didn't set the world on fire at first, it eventually found its audience through reruns, compilation movies and, of course, plastic model kits.
Since then, the franchise has grown to encompass multiple animé releases, as well as video games, including first-person shooters. Indeed, Gundam's collab with Call of Duty's Warzone isn't the series' first foray into the genre. A couple of years back, Bandai Namco, who owns the franchise via its studio Sunrise, released the ill-fated hero shooter Gundam Evolution.
In addition, Bandai also previously released the third-person shooter Gundam Battle Operation games on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4.
As for Gundam's appearance in Warzone, players will be able to use three special packs that give them Operator Skins based on three iconic mobile suits — the RX-78-2 Gundam and MS-06S Zakuu II from the original Mobile Suit Gundam from 1979, and the XVX-016 Gundam Aerial from last year's Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury.
In addition to the mobile suits, the packs will also contain special death effects, emblems, charms, decals and more Gundam-themed goodies.
Finally, a Gundam-themed event will also be coming to Season 4 of Warzone. No release date for the event has been released, and neither have any pricing details for the special packs.
