Akuma, the final character of Street Fighter 6's first character pass is finally here. As with certain past incarnations of the character, this game's version of Akuma has some secret super moves that aren't in the command list
Hidden super moves are sort of a staple of Akuma. His iconic "Raging Demon" super, for one, was a hidden super when he first appeared in the Street Fighter Alpha games, only available when he had three full bars of super meter.
In later games, he gained even more. Specifically, he had Kongo Kokuretsu Zan in Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike and Misogi in Capcom vs SNK 2 — though the latter was available only in his "Shin Akuma" varation.
In a callback to those games, Street Fighter 6 gives both moves back as secret supers for Akuma. However, unlocking them is quite tricky, in fact they might not be useable in a serious competitive match. (Read: How to quickly unlock Street Fighter 6's Outfit 2 costumes)
Unlocking "Shin Akuma" to access the secret supers
To access Akuma's secret super moves in Street Fighter 6, you first have to do his back taunt (back plus all six attack buttons). This will put him in a long animation where he sits down and turns his back.
During this animation, he'll turn his head to your opponent and taunt them. Should you not get hit, Akuma will turn his head back. This is when you need to input down and taunt (down plus all attack buttons). Done correctly, Akuma will bring out a giant ball of rice and start eating it. Should he finish eating it, his eyes will glow red and he'll say that he's "satiated."
This somewhat implies that he's now stronger, unlocking his "Shin Akuma" persona from older games, with access to both secret super moves, the motions of which we've listed below (with appropriate numpad notation for the fighting game nerds).
- Misogi: Double half circle back, then kick (624624+K)
- Kongo Kokuretsu Zan: Down, Down plus all three punches (2,2+PPP)
In addition, Akuma also gains access to his double Zanku Hadouken — the double air fireball, another Shin Akuma staple — in this mode. This is done with the input below.
- Double Zanku Hadouken: jump forward, quarter circle back plus two punches (j. 214+PP)
As the entire process above shows, using these moves in an actual competitive match is basically impossible, unless both players agree to let Akuma unlock them. That said, the moves are still great callbacks to past versions of the character, showing just how much love and care Capcom is putting into this game.
Akuma is now available for Street Fighter 6 as part of its first character pass.
