Overview
It's been ten years since the events of Until Summer Comes Around. Lucky to be alive, Rocky roams his beachside hometown, waiting for life to start again.
November Riley has never been far from the boy that stole her heart. She watches from the shadows, knowing she can never make things right between them, but just hoping they could try one more time...
A new documentary is bringing Gabriel Riley, the Beach Night Killer, back to national consciousness. The dead serial killer has a trio of new fans that are ready to make Old Orchard Beach their home for the end of the summer season.
When the new strangers in town discover Rocky's relationship to the past of one of their own, he becomes their number one target. Can November protect him, or will these other vampires prove too strong?
When the night falls, blood will spill, and death will reign.
Overview taken from the official book press release.
Review
Horror thrillers are fast becoming one of my favourite books to read, I love the way the book puts you on edge and you are constantly expecting the worst to happen. In this book it's a kind of two story book where it gives you the back round of the main story in like a flash back and the recent story runs along side creating a fresh perspective but at the same time sticking to the roots of the Beach Night Killer legend.
From the off you get the feeling that there is something coming on the horizon, Glenn Rolfe writes in a style that keeps the reader engaged throughout, if you've ever seen the teenage horror style films (ie I Know What You Did Last Summer) you will become engaged quickly as the story builds with a natural pace.
The characters are strong and I liked how the chemistry between the characters making the story feel more relatable to the reader. The characters of November and Rocky relive the nightmare once more as a new documentary around the Beach Night Killer brings painful memories front and centre and gave an overall rawness to the book as the two story streams develop.
I'm not really big on teenage vampire style stories (Twilight Saga) not really for me but this story had an edge to it that gripped me deep into the story, I loved the timeframe setting loving the 90s vibe.
I would say that this book definitely takes inspiration from the vampire horror films of the 90s which was definitely the best time for horror in my eyes and definitely the best place to look for inspiration and will definitely appeal to those that lived through that era.
Summary
Time now then to put my thoughts into a summary, overall I enjoyed the book and felt the nostalgic style really worked well with the story. I loved the raw energy that ran throughout the book that made the book relatable and made the experience more enjoyable.
Verdict-Out of 5 ⭐
⭐⭐⭐⭐
GOOD
I give When The Night Falls a good score of 4⭐ a raw nostalgic horror ride that will leave you guessing. I enjoyed the build up nearly as much as the main event, a strong piece of writing from Glenn Rolfe and I will definitely look for more and you could say I'm hooked.
