Barbie Almalbis' New Song "Desperate Hours" Explores Deep Pain and Longing
Barbie Almalbis is back with a new song, "Desperate Hours," the first single from her upcoming fifth studio album, due out at the end of the year. The song, produced by Nick Lazaro, is an experimental departure for Almalbis, drawing comparisons to Bjork, Melanie Martinez, and St. Vincent.
"Desperate Hours" showcases Almalbis' poetic songwriting and willingness to experiment with unconventional sounds. The track features unconventional guitar riffs, loose structures, and oddly charming noises, creating a unique and captivating listening experience.
Almalbis collaborated with Lazaro, known for his work with Clara Benin and BP Valenzuela, to bring her vision to life. She credits Lazaro with pushing her out of her comfort zone and encouraging her to experiment with her vocals.
The song was written during a challenging period in Almalbis' life when she was struggling with anxiety and emotional turmoil. She found solace in her faith and the support of close friends, and the song reflects her journey through these difficult times.
Almalbis cites Psalm 18 as a source of inspiration for the song, and its themes of faith and perseverance are evident in the lyrics. While "Desperate Hours" draws comparisons to artists like Kate Bush and Bjork, Almalbis maintains that she wasn't intentionally trying to emulate anyone.
"Desperate Hours" is a testament to Almalbis' growth as an artist and her willingness to explore new sonic territories. The song is out now on all digital music platforms worldwide.
