Review
Normally when it comes to horror games I'm right up in there, I'll be honest when I say horror games I'm more into the zombie slasher style but recently I've been reviewing more of the psychological horrors that really pull you into the whole experience.
The game sees you as the Warden and you must enter the cornfields to gather vital supplies for the village that are needed for survival however you are not alone in these fields - not alone AT ALL. The game definitely has a chilling vibe as you explore the corn fields with just a torch it definitely gives you a chilling feeling as you literally never know what's or even who is around the corner.
Your main aim is to harvest enough ambrosia (unfortunately not the custard - you'll know if you're in the UK) to take back to the village the further you get into the game the higher the requirements are which means the more difficult the challenge as you'll need to spend longer in the corn fields which heightens the danger. The gameplay is quite unique as it blends the horror adventure style with the card deck building mechanics which allows you to adapt your skill sets before you begin the level.
I feel that the first person perspective really works with the immersion of the game and allows the player to delve into the whole atmosphere of the game especially with the flashlight it definitely gives you chills as you explore the fields.
The Devourer is probably the most scariest bad guy I've come across in a game it's shear size is enough to give you a lifetime of nightmares and certainly poses a challenge.
Graphics and Sound
In terms of graphics I feel that the game offers a high level of graphics and the game looks and feels great, my pc is a standard gaming pc nothing fancy and it handles it well, the maps are atmospheric and really give you the jump scares you are looking for - I really wouldn't play this in the dark, yes I tried and yes the light went straight on!!!
The soundtrack of the game is good and adds a good level of atmosphere to the game, in game the sound effects are good and definitely add to the overall scary experience.
Summary
Time now then for me to put my thoughts into a summary, overall I felt the game felt it had a unique twist on the horror genre. The darkened atmospheric levels worked really well and supplied the right level of jump scares. Would definitely recommend you picking this up if horror games are your thing.
Verdict-Out of 5 ⭐
