Overview
Borei Gowda is a splendidly grumpy, hard-drinking cop, an Indian Rebus with a complicated love life. When Professor Mudgood is found dead in his decaying Bangalore house, it is considered a natural death; after all, he was 82 years old, but Gowda isn't so sure. All the evidence points to a political murder since the professor was a fervent critic of right-wing forces in India. But as Gowda launches a parallel investigation, he stumbles upon a secret and murky world where there are no rules or mercy. When Gowda's hand is forced, he takes a calculated risk and infiltrates the sinister domain to bring the truth out into the open. Will he succeed? And at what price?

Review
One of my favourite genres of reading is crime/thrillers but I've not yet read a crime novel that is based in the lands of India and thanks to Hot Stage this is about to change.
The book follows Borei Gowda as he lives his life in a permanent grumpy state, you could put that he loves with a permanent cloud above his head filled with resentment as he goes about his daily struggles clearing the streets of Bangalore. Things change for the worse as Professor Mudgood is found dead at his home pulling Gowda deep into a dark murder investigation. I felt that this seems to be this may be a last chance saloon for Gowda it's essential to him that he catches this felon and clear the streets for good.
This isn't a book that exploded from the first page this is more of a slow burner as it goes into detail building the story as the pages turn. Whether it's because this is the third book in the series and I haven't read the previous two books in the Gowda series it did take me a while to get into the book but after a while the story did start to capture my attention resulting in a story that I actually enjoyed finding out more about Gowda and the investigation.
Although this is a slow burner it still did give me a decent reading experience that made me stop and think with all the different twists. I would recommend this but probably better to go and get the others first and then come back and enjoy this title for at but a more educated experience overall
Summary
Time now for me to put my thoughts into a summary, overall I enjoyed the book it was a pretty smooth read unique setting with a crime fighting theme. The slow burner aspect of the book meant you have to be prepared to put the work to get the enjoyment out.. I would recommend the book but maybe get the others in the series first so you can get the most out of the book itself.
Verdict-Out of 5 ⭐
⭐⭐⭐
GOOD
I give Hot Stage a good score of 3⭐ a slow burner that with a unique style. A good all round book with plenty of twists and turns felt a little lost at times but that is more down to the starting there series at book 3 but I still enjoyed the reading all the same.
