Overview
The small town of Rislake in the picturesque Blue Mountains is about to be engulfed by a major bushfire.
The order has been given for the residents to clear out.
But a last sweep uncovers one person is missing: Tracey Hilmeyer, wife of one of the firefighters tackling the blaze.
Detective Kennard is in town to help with crowd control, but instead he finds himself driving straight towards the inferno to look for Tracey at the Hilmeyer home.
When he gets there, he finds her dead at the bottom of the stairs, and it's clear she was murdered.
With the evacuation almost complete there is barely enough time to save the living never mind the dead.
But Detective Kennard has something to prove and cannot let this one go.
Can he solve her murder before the crime scene, and the entire town, turns to ash?

Review
This was definitely one of the titles that I was most looking forward to getting started with, the cover art first grabbed me then the blurb took me further. The murder mystery thriller is given a dramatic shake up as a seemingly straightforward bushfire quickly takes a sinister turn as Tracey Hilmeyer is found dead at the family home.
The story takes place in the postcard picturesque Blue Mountains in the quiet and relaxed town of Rislake, you know the type where nothing of note ever really happens that is until the gruesome discovery is made that sends shockwaves through the town.
The thing is Tracey isn't just a tragic soul lost to the fire, Tracey was the wife of one of the firefighters tackling the wild inferno. Russell Hilmeyer is a big member of the community and important part of the firefighting team but he could also be the last person to see Tracey alive putting him firmly in Detective Kennard's sights as number one suspect.
The walls of suspicion aren't the only thing that looks to be tumbling Kennard's skeletons are shaking as the past traumas haunt his very existence, everything he does brings his thoughts back to that eventful day when the hostage situation went west, it haunts him every single minute of the day but does this cloud his judgement? Time is running out to find the murderer before it's too late and all traces of evidence will turn to ash with the rest of the town.
James Delargy has got to be from this one of my favourite authors, from the beginning I knew that I was going to be invested. The book has a fast pace that keeps you on the edge of your seat, it has emotion and intrigue by the bucket load - the world could've happily exploded and I would've still be fixed on the pages.
Summary
Time now to put my thoughts into a summary, overall I really enjoyed this book it literally gave me everything I look for in a book it had the mystery, it had the thrills and it had the emotion, the book felt it had a genuine rawness and kept me guessing throughout I think I changed my mind on the killer multiple times the book will have that effect on you as it takes you on many different paths. I would definitely recommend this, definitely one of my titles to look out for.
