Riot's upcoming fighting game 2XKO finally has a new character announced for its roster. The muscular, shield-bearing Braun joins the fray in the in-development tag-team game.
In a post on the PlayStation Blog, game director Shaun Rivera explains why the team chose Braun, stating that a character that used a shield to protect his teammates was something perfect for a tag-team game.
"Since 2v2 combat and playing with your friends is at the core of 2XKO gameplay, the team was eager to design a champion who would thrive as a support character," Rivera, a former Evo runner-up, writes. "Braum's protective abilities make any duo partner shine."
As part of this, Braun is also able to fortify his shield with ice after he lands certain abilities. This buff, called "Unbreakable" means that Braun's special moves deal more damage.
In addition, Braun can also call from help from his furry friends, the magical poros. This gives what looks to be a heavy, slow-moving character some extra tools to deal with faster ones, such as Ahri as shown in the trailer below. (Read: 2XKO is changing fan-favorite Ahri even before release)
2XKO getting a new character reveal isn't a surprise, what with Evo 2024 taking place next week. That said, many may have been expecting them to be revealed at the event, and not two weeks before.
This then begs the question of whether Braun will be playable at Evo, where Riot will have a presence.
Of course, the other question may be if 2XKO will feature another new character reveal at Evo. With the game's release just a year away, some may be wondering if the 2XKO team will be ramping up new character reveals at events like this.
In the meantime, 2XKO is also set to have an "Alpha Lab" at-home playtest for select regions. Sign-ups for it are already open on the game's official website with the test itself starting on August 8.
