In preparation for Evo 2024, which is taking place this weekend, Steam is having a massive "fighting game sale." The sale, interestingly enough, also features many games that aren't fighting games.
As previously stated, Steam having its "Fighting Game Fest" now isn't surprising with the Evo 2024, the biggest fighting game tournament of the year, taking place this weekend. Valve and the various fighting game publishers know that a lot of players are going to consider picking some of these games up after seeing them on stream.
What's surprising is that a fair number of games that aren't fighting games are also being listed as on sale. Some of these games are somewhat inspired or share some concepts with fighters, such as indie party games Gang Beasts (Ph₱ 250).
Others come from franchises with some connection to the genre, such as DragonBall games DragonBall Z Kakarot (Ph₱ 499.98) or DragonBall Xenoverse 2 (Ph₱ 399.97), which are on sale alongside tag-team fighter, DragonBall Fighters Z (Ph₱319.84).
More interesting, however, are games that have seemingly no connection to the genre at all, other than that they feature some form of fighting. These include the open-world superhero game Batman Arkham Knight (Ph₱ 499.95), and retro-revival beat 'em up Streets of Rage 4 (Ph₱ 306).
Of course, this kind of thing isn't really surprising given how loose Steam's classification can be, that said it can still be jarring to find something like the aforementioned Arkham Knight alongside genre stalwarts like Tekken 8.
And speaking of said genre stalwarts, not all of the big fighting games are on sale. Specifically, Street Fighter 6 – the biggest game at Evo 2024 – is not part of the Steam fighting game sale. That said, other big Evo games like Tekken 8 (Ph₱ 1,595.97), Mortal Kombat 1 (Ph₱ 1,196), Guilty Gear Strive (Ph₱ 1,023), Under Night In-Birth [Sys:Celes] (Ph₱ 1,278.75) and Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising (Ph₱ 1,140) are on sale.
This is on top of numerous smaller games and indie titles that players looking to get into the genre can experience.
The Steam Fighting Game Fest sale will continue until July 22, 2024.
