Genshin Impact will be changing how its 50/50 gacha rolls work in the upcoming 5.0 update coming next week. The change is part of a sweeping set of adjustments developer Hoyoverse is making to celebrate the game's fourth anniversary.
For those unfamiliar with the term, Genshin Impact's 50/50 refers to the 50% chance a player has to get the 5-star character featured in a specific banner. Specifically, the 50/50 happens when a player hits the 90-wish pity threshold that guarantees a 5-star character. Should they fail this, they're guaranteed to get the featured 5-star character the next time they hit the pity threshold.
With Genshin Impact version 5.0, the odds will now be 55/45, in favor of the featured 5-star, when wishing at the pity threshold. While it's only a small shift, it still raises the odds of players getting the featured 5-star character the first time out.
Version 5.0 is bringing a few more changes to Genshin Impact aside from the change to the "50/50" (or should we call it "55/45" now). The way the weapon banner works is also being adjusted. (Read: Genshin Impact mobile earnings go over $3 billion)
Previously the point system only guaranteed the player's target 5-star weapon after missing out on it twice. Now, that has been cut down to one time only. This means that weapons banners now work just like character banners, but with a lower pity threshold as this guarantees the selected weapon after only 130 wishes.
Finally, as part of the game's fourth anniversary, Hoyoverse is giving out some goodies, including the choice of one free 5-star character from the standard pool of characters: Jean, Diluc, Mona, Qiqi, Keqing, Tighnari and Dehya. According to Hoyoverse, this will become an annual anniversary reward, and that it will also be adding more characters to the standard pool.
In addition, players will also receive 10 Intertwined Fate and 1,600 Primogems.
With these changes, Hoyoverse looks to finally be updating Genshin Impact's gacha rewards following complaints that it was lagging behind Hoyoverse's other titles. Titles, such as Honkai Star Rail have been noted to be much more generous with their rewards, much to the chagrin of longtime Genshin Impact players.
Hopefully, the changes are finally able to address players' concerns moving forward.
