'Panggap': Plume's Emotional Journey to Authenticity
AltG Records' Baguio-based singer-songwriter Plume opens his heart in his latest single, "Panggap," released on August 30. The track delves into the complexities of masked emotions and the pursuit of authentic happiness, offering a heartfelt narrative that resonates with listeners worldwide.
"Panggap," which means "to pretend" in Filipino, tells the story of an individual wrestling with the facade of happiness. Plume shares, "The song is inspired by someone who is trying to pretend to be happy. While doing so, they seek someone to join them in this pretense, and through their journey, they gradually learn to find genuine happiness together without needing to pretend anymore."
The creation of "Panggap" also draws from Plume's personal experiences. "One day, I was feeling low and found myself speaking to someone who was equally down. Rather than admitting my feelings, I pretended to be okay and tried to uplift her spirits. I wanted at least one of us to feel better."
A standout line from the song, "Tumawa ka lang, ngumiti ka lang na tila wala nang bukas pa" ("Just laugh, just smile as if there's no tomorrow"), captures the essence of this emotional exploration. Plume explains, "I wanted the person in the story, or the listener, to find happiness without pretending. Smile if you can, live life to the fullest, as if today is your last chance to be happy—so why not start now?"
With "Panggap," Plume hopes to inspire others to confront their true emotions. "I hope this song reaches those who are hiding their true feelings or pretending to be someone they're not. If you're sad, cry. If you're happy, laugh. I want this song to encourage people to be honest with themselves," he concludes.
"Panggap" is now available on all major streaming platforms.
