Back again the series where I put questions to some key figures in the game industry to give you an insight into the people that make up this fantastic community.
This edition I get to pose questions to Sebastian Bazelmans Game Director at Odaclick Game Studios, developers of the new retro inspired release Karate Kid Street Brawl.
Check out the trailer below that will give you a peak at the game itself:
So without further ado let's get to the questions:
For those that don't know about The Karate Kid: Street Brawl , tell a little about it and what the game is all about?
The Karate Kid: Street Brawl is a game about reliving the iconic moments of our childhood heroes. It tells the story of Daniel LaRusso as he grows up, falls in love and fights for what matters to him. Set in both Los Angeles and Okinawa, the game is a classic beat 'em up that allows players to experience Daniel's and Mr. Miyagi's adventures as they confront their past and shape their future. It's a nostalgic tribute to the original Karate Kid story while offering action-packed gameplay.
How difficult is it to create a world around a well known brand?
It's definitely a challenge. As fans of the franchise ourselves, we wanted to honor its story while creating something new and engaging. Balancing respect for the brand with our own creative vision was crucial. Our goal was to create a game which players relate to as they relate to the original movies, while offering a fresh and exciting experience.
Any tips for how to get the most out of the game?
Take the time to experiment with different characters! As they level up, each character becomes more unique, and by the time they reach max level, they feel like entirely new versions of themselves. Also, don't hesitate to try out the harder difficulty settings if you're up for a challenge!
If you could be a character from the game, who would you be and why?
It might be a boring answer, but I would like to be Johnny and actually end up winning, I am team Johnny from before Cobra Kai.
Is there one game you would have liked to have created and why?
This is a tough question, there are many, like really many of them. But I think that the game that started my passion was Warcraft 3, the balance of lore and good gameplay from that game is incredible, I spent thousands of hours on it and it will definitely be an inspiration for my own future projects.
Are you a console, PC, or tabletop gamer? If you are, what game/games are you playing?
I am mostly a PC gamer and also a tabletop roleplayer. I am always playing Hearthstone and Dungeon and Dragons, but my favorite single player games from the last few years were Frostpunk and Hollow Knight.
Fantastic answers to the questions there and thank you to Sebastian for giving up some of his time to answer them.
Also I have been lucky enough to receive a review copy of the game so I will also be reviewing the title on the site, this will be up soon so keep an eye out for that.
