Hit action RPG Black Myth: Wukong could be getting a DLC expansion early next year according to insider reports over the weekend.
According to industry consultant Daniel Camilo, Black Myth: Wukong could be getting a DLC expansion, possibly around Chinese New Year.
"DLC for Black Myth Wukong will come out somewhere near the Chinese New Year, 2025," stated Camilo in a post on X, formerly Twitter. "That is, right at the end of January, or very soon after. This is according to very reliable first hand(sic) sources I heard from."
Camilo's post aligns with a statement made by Daniel Wu, CEO of Hero Games, earlier this month stating that a Black Myth Wukong expansion was in the works. Hero Games is the largest investor in Black Myth: Wukong developer Game Science.
Touted as one of the first blockbuster console games from China, Black Myth: Wukong quickly blew up on both PlayStation 5 and Steam, especially in its home country.
The game's Chinese origin also lends credence to its DLC expansion coming on Chinese New Year. Said holiday, which occurs between late January and early February, is arguably the most important in Chinese culture. As such many Chinese developers are quick to celebrate it with special events, most notably for gacha games such as Genshin Impact and Honkai Star Rail. As for what the expansion will entail, such as whether it'll add new story content, no details have been revealed so far. A new campaign is certainly one of the things players would appreciate, however, other additions in a Black Myth: Wukong expansion could also include a boss rush mode, which the game currently lacks.
Whatever the expansion will add, we'll likely find out sometime later this year should the Chinese New Year release date prove true.
