Football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo will be collaborating with SNK and its upcoming fighter Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves.
The Portuguese pro-footballer, who currently plays for the Saudi Pro League club Al Nassr and the Portugal national team, revealed the existence of a collab on his social media channels, stating "Something exciting in the making!"
While football and fighting games seem to be worlds apart, the collab makes more sense when considering Ronaldo's reach. With over one billion followers on his social media channels, the collab is bound to generate greater awareness for City of the Wolves.
In addition, football also tends to garner a very passionate following among Latin American fans, a market where SNK titles, such as the King of Fighters and previous Fatal Fury games also remain popular to this day.
As for what Ronaldo's participation in City of the Wolves will be, no details have been released by the footballer nor SNK as of yet. Current speculation is that he'll be doing some promotional work as well as have some sort of appearance in the game — perhaps as an announcer of commentator, in a similar manner to how Capcom did with Street Fighter 6's guesting of WWE wrestler Zelina Vega. However, some fans are actually wondering (both jokingly and seriously) if he could somehow be made to be a playable character in the game. Fighting games have had (fictional) footballers as playable characters after all, with Capcom including one in its classic Rival Schools. Meanwhile, SNK has also dabbled in making athletes from non-combat sports as fighters in its King of Fighters series.
Will Cristiano Ronaldo actually make the jump to playable fighter in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves? We'll find out sooner or later, especially with the Tokyo Game Show just around the corner.
Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves launches PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series consoles and PC on April 24, 2025.
