Overview
Humorously told with hilarious personal anecdotes and real-life stories that shed light on the eccentric things that go on behind closed hospital doors, Deadish is a delightful blend of dark humor and absurdism that celebrates the medical world while poking fun at hospital bureaucracy.
Rife with interneccine warfare of office politics, medical misadventures, and stories told after one too many drinks, you'll follow the lives of Ashley and Chris, two junior surgeons at Serenity Hospital, as they struggle with domineering management, awkward patient encounters, and unintentionally amusing events that make you want to laugh out loud.
As the pair fight to save their patients – and sometimes their own lives – they reveal the real human connections behind every story that give profound meaning to their hard work and sacrifice!
As a must-read potential patients, nurses, doctors, and anybody who wants to have a laugh as they gain a deeper insight into what goes on inside hospitals, Deadish is an absurd and hillarious read that uses black comedy to uncover the authentic stories of the medical world.
Review
This book feels a little step away from my normal choice of reads but the blurb captured my attention enough to create interest - which is basically the purpose of the blurb so that worked.
The book reads as if you were watching one of the hospital shows on TV but not really on the drama side of ER or Casualty more on the comedy side of Scrubs or somewhere in between. The way the book has been written is quite unique in the sense that it is a novel but reads as though it is an autobiography as it goes through step by step accounts of what goes on behind those hospital doors. I found it quite refreshing to read a subject that is normally quite serious and this book keeps it's tongue firmly in it's cheek as it goes through the day to day goings on on the wards and surgery rooms.
What must be a highly stressful job with daily events that would probably push most people over the edge but the characters of Ashley and Chris show that those people dressed in scrubs are normal human beings and do react as such. I don't know alot about the technical terminology used or the specifics but to me they seem authentic and I'm sure people who are in the industry will think so.
Although it isn't a true life account it does have a certain realism to it and I think that's what gives the book an authentic feel, Alex Lancer has a style of writing that almost puts you at ease when you are reading and it feels tou are stepping into a TV show and really opens up the imagination but I will say you may not want to read the book if you are due to go for surgery !! Other than that highly recommend picking this up

I give Deadish a good score of 4 ⭐, a funny and highly accurate account of real life hospitals that keeps a tongue firmly in it's cheek. You will definitely enjoy the highs and lows as the main characters go about their daily lives.
