During its most recent State of Play, Sony revealed that Ghost of Tsushima will be getting a sequel. Called Ghost of Yotei, the new game follows a new protagonist in a new region in Japan.
While Sucker Punch has yet to reveal the finer details of the story, Sony did reveal that the game will take place in the year 1603 – over 300 years since the original – in the lands around Mout Yōtei, in modern-day Hokkaido. In addition, the game features a new female protagonist named Atsu. (Read: Ghost of Tsushima finally coming to PC)
While fans of Ghost of Tsushima protagonist Jin Sakai may be disappointed, the choice of a new character and setting in the sequel does make sense considering Jin's story was effectively concluded in his game. It also sets an exciting precedent for the Ghost series exploring a new setting and protagonist with each game.
As for the trailer itself, it shows that the Ghost of Tsushima sequel will have the same scenic vistas as the original – showing off various landscapes and even seasons around Mount Yōtei.
In addition, particular attention is given to a wolf that seems friendly to Atsu. This could hint at some new gameplay mechanic in Ghost of Yōtei.
As for when players will get to play the game, Ghost of Yōtei arrives on PlayStation 5 sometime in 2025.
