GMA Network, one of the Philippines' leading broadcast companies, secured top honors at the prestigious ContentAsia Awards 2024, adding to its long list of accolades. The network took home four awards, including a Gold Medal for its hard-hitting documentary, Secret Slaves: The Jessica Soho Special Report on Human Trafficking.
This special report, which was produced by GMA Public Affairs, won the Gold Award in the category of Best Current Affairs Programme Made in Asia for Regional and/or International Markets. The documentary, presented by renowned broadcast journalist Jessica Soho, delves into the harrowing world of human trafficking through survivor testimonies and in-depth investigative journalism. Soho, the country's most awarded journalist, helped shine a spotlight on this global issue, making the program stand out on the international stage.
GMA's critically acclaimed film, Firefly, earned a Silver Award in the Best Asian Feature Film/Telemovie category. Produced by GMA Pictures and GMA Public Affairs, Firefly tells the heartwarming story of a young boy's quest to find the mythical island of fireflies, a place he learned about through his mother's bedtime stories. The film stars Euwenn Mikaell and Alessandra de Rossi, with direction by Zig Dulay. This win is another feather in the cap for the film, which has already been recognized in various festivals.
In the Best Variety Programme category, All-Out Sundays clinched the Bronze Award. The show, known for its lively musical performances and fun games, has become a staple for Kapuso viewers every Sunday. With a star-studded lineup of performers, All-Out Sundays continues to captivate audiences with its high-energy entertainment.
Representing GMA Network at the awards ceremony, GMA Senior Vice President for Entertainment Lilybeth G. Reasonable and GMA Public Affairs Senior Program Manager and Firefly's Creative Producer Kristian Julao proudly accepted the awards on behalf of the company.
Also making waves at the 2024 ContentAsia Awards was the Thai drama series The Betrayal, which is part of GMA Network's Afternoon Prime lineup. The show won the Gold Award in the Best Asian Drama Series Made for a Regional or International Market category, further enhancing GMA's reputation for delivering top-notch international content.
