PlayStation's recent State of Play brought some good news for fans of classic JRPGs with the reveal of the Lunar Remastered Collection. The collection, which brings together Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete and Lunar 2: Eternal Blue Complete, arrives on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4, as well as Xbox Series consoles, PC and Switch, in the Spring of 2025.
Though originally launched on the Sega CD, both games found a wider audience when they got updated "Complete" versions (hence their names) on Sega Saturn and Sony PlayStation during the late 90s JRPG boom.
It's these updated versions that are coming as part of the Lunar Remastered Collection, alongside a host of upgrades. These include widescreen support, enhanced pixel art, all-new English voice acting and high-definition animated cut scenes. Beyond that, the games will also be getting German and French translations for the first time ever.
Of course, for purists, the Collection will still allow the games to be played with the original visuals.
Finally, for newer players not used to the pace of a classic JRPG, the Lunar Remastered Collection will add an option for faster battles, on top of a new strategy setting designed to make combat more convenient.
The story of both games revolves around the titular fantasy world of Lunar, a moon orbiting a planet called the Blue Star, and the eternal struggle between the goddess Althena and the vile Zophar — a struggle that led to the Blue Star's desolation. Both games also involved blue-haired young women who are somehow connected to Althena and their quests to find out exactly what that connection is can alter the fate of Lunar and her people, all while finding love along the way.
