Overview
When a police detective is found murdered, all clues point to Amma Reynolds, a young woman who lives in the town. Amma has a clear motive. She resents the police for failing to properly investigate her brother's death, written off as an accidental drowning, but which she believes was murder.
If that wasn't suspicious enough, she is now refusing to speak to the police.
Former detective and private investigator Erin Crane is hired by Amma's family to try and convince her to talk and to find out what really happened on the evening of DI Mark Stormont's murder.
As she digs deeper, Erin realises that in order to solve the case, she first needs to uncover why Amma's brother turned up dead in a river all those years ago. Even if it means tearing her friendship with DI Lewis Jennings apart.
Because there are some secrets the Wakestead police force would rather stay buried...

Review
Definitely seems to be the season for thrillers right now with some high level titles coming out and one of which is the latest title from Charlotte Langley, The Intrusion which is the sequel to her previous title The Blame.
A quiet town is rocked when a young detective is found dead and the only person that can shed any light on what happened is Amma Reynolds, a young woman that lives locally and has always lived there all the clues and evidence are pointing in her direction but the only problem is she is refusing to speak to Police which firmly points the finger of suspicion in her direction.
As the story continues we find out that the motive is there as Amma resents the Police for how they handled the investigation into her brother's tragic death but would that be enough to turn Amma into a murderer? One person that could well unlock the silence is former detective and private investigator Erin Crane, who reluctantly gets involved in the investigation but digging deeper points to the original investigation to Amma's brother's death, can history unlock the present?
I jumped on this tour straight away after seeing the cover and blurb and at the time I didn't realise that it was a sequel but that didn't impact my enjoyment of the book at all if anything it's made me want to get hold of the first book too. I found Charlotte Langley to have a captivating style of writing that grabbed my attention from the very first page, the urban setting almost made the book seem real with the characters each given their time to evolve into the story. I particularly liked how the story covered both the murders and how although years apart one impacted the other.
The relatively short chapters made the reading of the book reasonably easy going and allowed me to enjoy the reading of the book without feeling overwhelmed.
Summary
Time now then for me to put my thoughts into a summary, overall I enjoyed the experience of reading this book it had more of a laid back style than most thrillers I've read and it was that that I enjoyed it almost felt as if I was watching a TV show (in fact I really would love to see this) For those that like a thriller with a bit more thought behind it then this is definitely one for you.
Verdict-Out of 5 ⭐
