Hi, daily! The Social Good Summit 2024 is less than a month away! We're happy to announce we're holding exciting breakout sessions simultaneously, from 2 to 4 pm, during the summit. Breakout session 1 is about fighting disinformation and harassment during the 2025 Philippine election season. Breakout session 2 is about climate resilience in Philippine cities and how it connects to improved quality of life. Full details below. Led by the anti-disinformation coalition #FactsFirstPH with Foundation for Media Alternatives and Google News Initiative, this breakout session will tackle what can be done to fight disinformation and the misuse of artificial intelligence during election season, as well as discuss how we can better protect ourselves against new online threats like hacking, and scams, among others. This will also touch on existing policy gaps and potential for improvement. The panelists for this breakout session are: - Comelec Chairperson George Garcia
- Jeffrey Ian Dy - Undersecretary for Infostructure Management, Cybersecurity, and Upskilling, Department of Information and Communications Technology
- Mike Tanapon Raomanachai - Lead Trainer, Cofact (Partnered with Google News Initiative)
- Atty. Rico Domingo - Founding Chairman and Lead Convenor of the Movement Against Disinformation
- Ruth Cabal - TV5 news anchor
The breakout session will feature a short panel discussion, and question and answer portion. This will then be followed by an activity where participants will be grouped and encouraged to share their insights on what can be done to protect information integrity and truth-tellers. Organized with Rappler's Project Agos and Make Manila Liveable partners, this breakout session will discuss challenges to disaster preparedness and climate adaptation, and how this is linked to good governance and better quality of life in Philippine cities. The panelists for this breakout session are: - Raffy Alejandro - Deputy Administrator, Office of Civil Defense
- Alberto Kimpo - Assistant City Administrator for Operations, Quezon City Government
- Dr. Mahar Lagmay - Executive Director, UP Resilience Institute
- Elijah Go Tian - Co-founder, Placemaking Pilipinas
This will then be followed by a placemaking activity where participants will be grouped to discuss and come up with an imaginary neighborhood grounded on climate resilience. The outcome of this activity is a 10-point wishlist which Rappler will write about, use in our election coverage and campaigns, and relay to 2025 electoral candidates. The activity will be led by the following Make Manila Liveable partners: - Elijah Go Tian - Co-founder, Placemaking Pilipinas
- Jayson Villeza - Technical Consultant, Ilog Pasiglahin
