3 Things Every Educator Must Know About Gen AI Today

Dear Reader,

You’ve likely been overwhelmed by everything said about “generative AI” – the benefits, the dangers, the ongoing debates about whether it belongs in our classrooms at all. The concerns are real.

So how do we make sense of a technology powerful enough to reshape our communities, and the very spaces where our students learn to think, create, and become their best selves? Talk to any teacher or learning advocate and you’ll be asked the same question.

While the conversations continue to evolve, here are three things every educator needs to understand now:

1. AI literacy is no longer optional.
Teachers shape the future, and AI is already part of every student’s learning experience. Understanding these tools is essential to guiding students through them.

2. Definitions aren’t enough.
Real understanding comes from hands-on experimentation. Educators must move beyond concepts and learn how AI truly works in practice, including its benefits and risks.

3. AI is transforming how students learn.
Teachers are no longer just “sources of information,” but guides who help develop judgment, curiosity, and human-centric skills that machines can’t replicate.

At Rappler, we’ve seen this shift firsthand. Through Rai, our newsroom chatbot built with strict editorial guardrails, and our Guidelines on Artificial Intelligence, we’ve learned how AI can strengthen workflows without ever replacing human judgment, ethics, or critical thinking.

This is why we’re opening our doors to educators: to share what we’ve discovered and to learn from your own experiences too.

On November 29, we’re hosting an exclusive one-day masterclass designed for teachers and learning advocates called, “Teaching and Thinking in the Age of AI.”

From 9 am to 4 pm at the Rappler Newsroom, participants will:

  • Understand how AI is reshaping the world of work and education

  • Learn the fundamentals of generative AI

  • Get hands-on experience with AI tools

  • Explore ways to keep learning human-centered and protect academic integrity

The workshop will be led by:

  • Gemma Mendoza, Head of Digital Services at Rappler

  • Chay Hofileña, Head of Training and Investigative Desk at Rappler

  • Don Kevin Hapal, Head of Data and Innovation at The Nerve

If you’re ready to take the next step, visit rplr.co/AIClassroomWorkshop or email learn@rappler.com for tickets.

Let’s help shape a future where AI strengthens, not replaces, human learning.

Courage on,

The Rappler Team
