Perovskites stick together for better performance

May 10, 2021

Scientists in the U.S. demonstrated an additive that acts as a "molecular glue" within a perovskite solar cell. Treating the cells with this self-assembled monolayer material was shown to greatly improve their long-term performance, whilst also providing a boost to conversion efficiency. And the scientists further point out that the treatment relies on simple processing and readily available materials – good signs for its applicability in manufacturing.

Having proved their potential for high efficiency and low-cost manufacturing, perovskite solar cells have caught the eye of manufacturers, and already made significant progress toward commercialization and large-scale production.

CAN Covid-19 vaccines affect my period?

It's not known, but researchers are starting to study the issue.

Vaccines are designed to activate your immune system, and some experts have wondered if that could temporarily disrupt menstrual cycles.

So far, reports of irregular bleeding have been anecdotal. And it's hard to draw any links to the vaccines since changes could be the result of other factors including stress, diet and exercise habits. There's also a lack of data tracking changes to menstrual cycles after vaccines in general.

If scientists do eventually find a link between the vaccine and short-term changes ...

Lacson: Born nearsighted

May 10, 2021

WHEN I was about 10 years old, I had difficulties reading what was being written in the black board. Often times, I had to squirm my face and struggle just to be able to see what's in front of me. I did not really understand what was going on, and I can remember quite a few times when I would stare at the façade of our house and see a blurred and distorted version of it. Then, at a later time of those mornings, I would experience terrible headaches that would turn into nausea and vomiting. After suffering from ...

Jolywood signs mega-deal to supply 7 GW of household solar

May 10, 2021

05023_Jolywood1

Based on the price agreed for the first year of the five-year contract, the total deal would be worth almost $4 billion to the $1 billion company. However, with input costs rising and the state-owned sponsor likely to expect to pay lower fees for subsequent years, the TOPCon manufacturer's margins may not remain so fat.

Chinese electric utility the State Power Investment Corporation (SPIC) has signed a huge residential PV installation contract with Jolywood which, at first glance, appears to potentially be worth more than three-and-a-half times the market value of the solar manufacturer.

SPIC, through its 70% holding ...
