Diversification is an essential strategy for any fund's management team. More so, Gord Ferguson, CEO at broker dealer 12 Peers Capital, believes that it is necessary in order to "successfully manage and grow investment capital in the marketplace of today." This is why he has chosen to become the Managing Director of a new venture dedicated to these possibilities in the context of digital assets.
GDA Group's asset management arm Global Fund Management has partnered with 12 Peers Capital for its latest venture known as the Avalon Fund. The fund is expected to raise $100 million by December and will be dedicated to mixed asset arbitrage and will offer short and long exposure to digital assets, equities, and fixed income products. The North American leader in blockchain technology sees Avalon as part of its "mission is to create long-term value." It will seek to identify strategies that generate alpha for digital assets while also receiving returns from traditional assets such as bonds and equities.
The team is made up of over 10 seasoned executives and professionals led by Ferguson and GDA's Executive Chairman David Shafrir. Circle Investment Support Services (USD) LLC will serve as the fund administrator, while Northern Trust will act as custodian, O'Neal Webster as the legal counsel, and Deloitte & Touche as auditor.
Shafrir has shared his outlook. "Launching Avalon is the culmination of months of hard work, and brings the GDA Group one step closer to our long-term goal of creating stronger institutional onramps that make digital assets more accessible and desirable to the traditional investment community. Avalon, and all of Global Fund Management's upcoming investment products will offer more sophisticated exposure into one of the best performing asset classes of the last decade."
Avalon works with a mixed-asset thesis that focuses on decentralized assets, mining infrastructure assets, equities, and fixed income products such as options and derivatives. This allows the firm to place itself in a strategic position for short-term market opportunities and hedges against long-term market fluctuations.
