Overview
Neo Berlin 2062. Tina – a nine-year-old orphan – lives with SAM-53 – her big clumsy robot guardian –in a rooftop makeshift shelter in Neo-Berlin, a dark megalopolis controlled by corporations. Tina is an urban jungle kid, who has learned to live alone, scavenging from city dumpsters and eking out a living from scraps. Her funny robot is always with her, programmed to protect her no matter what.
One day, the little girl discovers that her father left her an important mission: to finish his plan to save the world from grayness! Tina and SAM embark on an incredible adventure across different realities full of bizarre robotic creatures and grotesque human beings. Through puzzles and exciting dialogues, they'll find out the true meaning of being alive.
Gameplay
I'll be honest point and click adventure games aren't really my thing but side scrolling platformers most definitely are, Encodya is kind of like a hybrid between the two a charming adventure seeing you take Tina and SAM 53 on a cyberpunk style adventure.
The story is pretty straight forward as you work your way through the different areas turning to your robot friend SAM 53 for help if needed using his knowledge to give you handy pointers, kind of like a walking tutorial.
The main aspect of the game is exploration but you also need to remember things as you may need to get something from one place to help you back in another making you search basically every nook and crannie of the area before you move off.
The two unlikely heroes work kind of well as a daring duo bouncing off each other making the game feel quite wholesome giving the gamer a nice warm feeling inside. The game certainly isn't easy but it feels like the devs have got the mix right and the game works overall. The overall control of the game is quite straight forward allowing the player to immerse deeper into the story, it is also easy to jump between the characters which makes things easier.
The story is immersive and told in a really good way through the two main characters with the Neo Berlin world feeling dark and murky but equally interesting enough to make you want to explore, at times where you need to explore isn't straight forward nd you do need to search hard but when you do get the story going it feels a good game to play and overall a charming experience.
Graphics and Sound
The graphic style of Encodya is leaning on the cartoon style but with a kind of realistic feel, the style works well with the game the dark Neo Berlin world is stunning to explore in the 2.5D aspect and feels a bit more immersive than a normal point and click game would be.
The soundtrack is good and works well, the in game sounds are great especially the voice acting working well to tell the story and give an immersive experience.
Summary
To summarise my thoughts on Encodya, I found the game overall a charming experience and enjoyed working through story more so than i thought I would. For those that enjoy point and click adventure games you will definitely enjoy this and for those that don't so much then you'll still probably find the game interesting.
Verdict-Out of 5
