Even though Netflix upcoming videogame-to-animé adaptation, Castlevania: Nocturne, isn't out yet, the streaming giant just dropped early glimpses at three new videogame-based shows it has in the works. The new shows are based on the Tomb Raider, Devil May Cry and Far Cry franchises.
Tomb Raider: The Legend Of Lara Croft
Debuting sometime in 2024, Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft builds on the world Crystal Dynamics created with their Survivor trilogy. The show is produced by Legendary Entertainment and animated by Powerhouse Animation, the studio behind Netflix's own Castlevania and Masters of the Universe: Revelation. Hayley Atwell, who played Peggy Carter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, will play Lara Croft, replacing Camilla Luddington who voiced her in the games.
Devil May Cry
From Adi Shankar, the producer of Netflix's Castlevania, comes Devil May Cry, Netflix's animé adaptation of Capcom's hit character action franchise—and the second animated take on it, following Madhouse's 2007 series.
The new adaptation looks to draw heavily from Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening, a game widely considered to be one of the best in the franchise, and certainly one of the best games on the PlayStation 2. No release date for the new Devil May Cry animé has been revealed.
Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix
Arguably the strangest show of the bunch, Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix adapts Ubisoft's Far Cry series, just not the Far Cry game many may be familiar with. Rather, this Netflix animé is a loose adaptation of Far Cry: Blood Dragon, the campy 2013 spinoff that paid homage to 1980s action movies.
The new show, which arrives on October 19, 2023, is billed as a "remix" taking what seems to be the original's setting and puts an entirely new cast of characters—including lead character Dolph Laserhawk—in a "Suicide Squad"-esque mission.
