Aprub ng mga netizens si Presidente Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. sa pagbati kay Taiwan President-elect Lai Ching-Te, isang pagsuway sa babala ng China laban kay Pangulong Marcos at pagkatig sa Philippine leader.

Noong Lunes, Enero 15, ay ipinost ni Pangulong Marcos sa social media ang kanyang congratulatory message, at sinabi lamang na inaasahan niya ang "close collaboration, strengthening mutual interests, fostering peace and ensuring prosperity" sa newly-elected leader ng Taiwan.

Subalit agad na binatikos ni China's Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning si Presidente Marcos, at ipinarating ang kanilang mahigpit na babala: "We advise President Marcos to read more to properly understand the history of the Taiwan issue so that he can draw the right conclusions."

Sa pagsuway sa babala ng China at pagsuporta kay Presidente Marcos, binati ng Filipino netizens ang bagong lider ng Taiwan.

Sa isang comment sa Facebook, sinabi ni netizen Nishren Marangit na, "Yes with President Marcos. Even if China doesn't recognize the UNCLOS (United Nations Convention on the Law of the Seas), the Philippines still recognizes your One-China policy.

Maybe you can also recognize the UNCLOS and remove the artificial islands you made in the West Philippine Sea, in the independent-exclusive economic zone of the Philippines particularly in the WPS."

Ipinost naman ni Facebook user Eduardo Jaucian sa comments section ng Philippine news outlet na: "Baka akala ng Intsik na budol ang Presidente ng Pilipinas."

Ilang netizens din ang hindi nagdalawang-isip, isa na rito si Facebook user Esoh Chalbiz na nagsabing "what an illusion China has. Is the Philippines a province of China? That its government has control over whom she will communicate?"

Sa pag-quote sa pahayag ni China's Foreign Affairs Ministry, sinabi ni X user @descartesrpm na: "Ibalik niyo muna sa amin 'yung mga isla namin and follow the international law."

Sinegundahan ito nina Facebook user Fred Cee na nagsabing "Tuta ba nila ang Pilipinas na sila magdidikta kung ano ang dapat at hindi dapat gawin ng ating gobyerno?" at Bob Ramos na sinabing "ibinoto niya ang pink, but I'm happy na hindi tuta ng China (si President Marcos)."

Binigyang-diin ng Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) na ang Philippines at Taiwan ay may mutual interests, at may halos 200,000 overseas Filipino workers na nagtatrabaho sa Taiwan, karamihan ay sa mga pabrika.

Sa isang statement, nilinaw ng DFA na ang mensahe ni Marcos na bumabati sa bagong Taiwanese president "was his way of thanking them for hosting our OFWs (overseas Filipino workers) and holding a successful democratic process."
