A Yo-Kai Watch event in Final Fantasy XIV isn't something many fans would expect and yet here we are, getting the collaboration for the fourth time. In this guide, we'll be going over some important details for the event like where to start it, how to participate, and what type of rewards you can get.
Having done collaborations with other titles such as Monster Hunter World and Fall Guys, Final Fantasy XIV is no stranger to crossover events. You won't get any game-breaking items for participating in these events, but you can get a bunch of cool stuff like mounts, glamours, and minions.
The Yo-Kai Watch collaboration has plenty of limited items for players to collect, so let's go ahead and find out how you get to interact with these cute and colorful spirits.
Starting the Yo-Kai Watch Event

Kicking off the Yo-Kai Watch event in FFXIV requires you to start a quest called A Complete Game Changer. The starter NPC for this quest is the Poor-heeled Youth at Ul'dah – Steps of Nald (X:9.2, Y:9.1). You need to be on a job that's at least level 15 to accept this quest.
You will be directed to the Gold Saucer after speaking with the Poor-heeled Youth, so be sure to have access to the amusement park to continue. When you get to the Gold Saucer, speak to the Wandering Executive at (X:5.2, Y:6.9). Accept his proposal and he will send you off to Bentbranch Meadows.
At Bentbranch Meadows, you'll be tasked with speaking to three NPCs to gather intel on the Wandering Executive's missing companion. These NPCs aren't far from the aetheryte and will be marked on your map so all you need to do is follow the markers.
Once you've gathered enough information, make your way over to the Guardian Tree at Central Shroud (X:15.1, Y:25.1). Interact with the Ancient Stone Vessel at the base of the Guardian Tree and you'll get a nice little cutscene with a Yo-kai named Whisper. After the cutscene, return to the Wandering Executive at the Gold Saucer.
Speaking with the Wandering Executive at this point will complete the quest and you will receive the Yo-kai Watch, Yo-kai Medallium, and a Yo-kai Medal. During this exchange, the Wandering Executive will also reveal that his name is Nohi.
Final Fantasy XIV Yo-Kai Watch Event Mechanics

During this event, your main goal will be to collect all of the Yo-Kai Watch-themed minions. You can acquire these minions by purchasing them from Nohi with Yo-kai medals.
The first minion you purchase, regardless of which one you choose, will cost one Yo-kai medal. After that, Nohi will start charging you three Yo-kai medals for each minion. You can buy minions in any order you like.
To get more Yo-Kai medals, you will need to participate in FATEs in specific zones with the Yo-kai Watch equipped. You can also obtain Legendary medals by having the right Yo-kai minion out while joining FATEs in a zone associated with that minion. Legendary medals are used to purchase Yo-Kai Watch-themed weapon glamours from Nohi.
Here's a breakdown of each Yo-kai minion you can obtain, where to farm their Legendary medals, and which weapon glamour they are associated with.

Yo-kai Watch Event Rewards

Aside from the different minions and weapon glams you can collect, the Yo-kai Watch collaboration also offers some more rewards for those who invest their time into the event. Do enough grinding and you can get some mounts and a framer's kit.
The first mount you can obtain is the Whisper-go, a mount that's modeled after the Whisper Yo-kai. This is unlocked by collecting 13 Yo-kai minions.
Next is the Whisper A-go-go, which is also made with the likeness of Whisper except it has a glow effect and a Jibanyan that tags along with you. You can get this by acquiring 13 Yo-kai weapons.
Now, by obtaining all 17 Yo-kai weapons, you will unlock the Jibanyan Couch mount, which is exactly what it sounds like. It's a floating couch mount in the shape of a Jibanyan.
Finally, the Yo-Kai Watch Framer's Kit can be purchased from Nohi for 20,000 MGP after collecting all 17 Yo-kai minions. This item is used to unlock various Yo-kai themed portrait elements. (Read: Final Fantasy XIV coming to Xbox Series consoles)
When Does the Yo-kai Watch Event Take Place?
The most recent run of the Yo-kai Watch collaboration started on April 24, 2024, and will last until the release of the Dawntrail. Early access for Dawntrail is scheduled for June 28, 2024, so we can expect the event to wrap up about a day before that date.
This is the fourth time Final Fantasy XIV has held the Yo-kai Watch event. We can expect it to return at some point in the future in case you missed out on any rewards, but it may take a couple of years before another comeback.
And that's all the info we have on the Final Fantasy XIV Yo-Kai Watch collaboration. Have fun going through the grind and good luck with those Legendary Medal drops.
