Review
The more I get into book reviews the more I am finding that I love a good thriller, you know the ones where you literally can't put the book down well couple that with a music theme and your definitely on my side of the tracks.
The book follows two story veins the first being following Kat Green who has made it her life's work to track down former celebs that don't want to be found or can't be found but when the chance comes to hunt down the elusive lead singer of legendary band Scorpio Hearts, Roskoe Darke this was just an investigation that Kat had to get her hands into. The other story vein is a the rise of tween pop sensation "Cherry&Blue", chart sensations in the late 90s the picture of perfect happiness - on the stage that is however behind the glamour the tale is slightly different.
At first it is unclear how the two veins are connected but both are integral to the overall story as they lay the foundation for the chilling story to come. The book reads in a way that pulls you in from the off as the investigation of Darke gathers intriguing pace and the hatred grows between the tween stars, as you read the pages you can sense that something is lurking around the corner, but which corner? And what is lurking?
Another introduction for me with this review as I haven't come across NS Ford as a writer as before I got into book reviewing I tended to keep to the authors I knew, however I am very glad I have had the introduction as the writing style from Ford had me gripped. It's the type of book that when you put it down you are still asking yourself questions on the events you've just experienced. This book is not a jump scary horror but a chilling tale that is a long term mystery that will have you coming to your own theories but will also have you questioning yourself. The two veins of story perfectly come together in chilling finale that turns the book completely upside down giving the book a well deserved ending.
Summary
Time now then to put my thoughts into a summary, overall I struggled initially to get my head around the two separate veins of story but once you get an understanding the story path becomes clear and the chilling tale begins to unwrap. In the end the split in the stories makes sense as they lay the foundation well for what's to come and is very clever writing. A definite recommendation from me.
