Imelda Papin's new role in PCSO will not deter her singing career
"Jukebox Queen" Imelda Papin will be laden with work now that she has taken her oath of office as acting member of the board of directors of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) but she definitely will not forsake her singing career. This, among other things, she expressed during her recent media conference at the Mesa restaurant.
The last time she met President Bongbong Marcos, she intimated to him that she is willing to take any position as long as she could continue serving the people. "I told him about my new work prospect - Isang Linggong Serbisyo. Di ba swak na swak sa Isang Linggong Pag-ibig?" That song was Imelda's most popular song.
After her oath-taking, Imelda was heavily congratulated and people intimated that with her at PCSO, they could foresee hope. The position was expected because everyone knew that Imelda has been doing public service for a long time. If she has been in showbiz for 45 years, she has also spent that much time in charity work. And now, "parang naguumpisa na naman ako," she stressed.
As director, she won't be doing any changes as far as her duties and responsibilities are concerned but she would do her best to help as many as possible those who need assistance.
As president of the Actors Guild, she would continue serving the members as much as she had in the past. The vice president will replace her as head of the group as soon as she gets down.
As PCSO director, she said she will focus on helping those who are in need. And by the way, despite the controversies surrounding the lotto operations, Imelda encourages everyone to try their luck in the lotto, which she described as not gambling. "The lotto proceeds goes to charity, balik ito sa kawanggawa."
As in the fast, Imelda enjoined the movie press and media to support her in her new position as PCSO director. "With your help, narating ko ang tugatog ng tagumpay sa singing career ko, at humihingi ako ulit ng tulong niyo especially ngayon sa position ko as PCSO director."
Many organizations have asked her to run for a political position, but that's not a priority for her. "Rest assured, ang pagsilbi sa bayan ang priority ko, " she stressed.
Imelda had also visited Home for the Aged where showbiz members like Josie Manago and Virgie Balatico are confined.
We should all wish Imelda Papin success in her new position in PCSO.
