Hinatulan ng korte ng Mandaue ang 19 na opisyal at empleyado ng Rural Bank of Subangdaku, Inc. (RBSI) para sa palsipikasyon ng mga pampubliko at komersyal na dokumento, ayon sa Department of Justice (DOJ) nitong Lunes.
"This as the Mandaue Municipal Trial Court in Cities (MTCC) found RBSI personnel guilty beyond reasonable doubt for conspiring to defraud the bank billions of pesos, convicting all of them for 34 separate counts of falsification of documents," anang DOJ sa isang pahayag.
Hinatulan lahat ng mga akusado ng pagkakulong mula isang taon hanggang tatlong taon at magbayad ng multang P3,000 na may subsidiary imprisonment sakaling insolvency.
"The court ruled that RBSI officers/personnel made it appear that certain individuals obtained a loan from RBSI when in truth and in fact, never did nor even participated in the preparation of the documents related thereto," ani pa ng DOJ.
Nag-ugat ang kaso sa reklamong inihain ng Philippine Deposit Insurance Corporation (PDIC) sa DOJ noong 2009.
Ayon sa korte, nabigo ang depensa na patunayan ang pagiging inosente nito sa pamamagitan ng pagtanggi nang hindi sinusuportahan ng malinaw at matibay na ebidensya. Bukod dito, sinabi ng korte na ang kadena ng mga pangyayari na nakapalibot sa pagkakasangkot ng mga akusado ay sinusuportahan ng tangible proof.
"Banking and financial institutions play a crucial role in nation building to fuel the needs of every person, business and organizations," wika ni Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla sa isang pahayag.
"To defraud the same is far worse than stealing from every Filipino, taking away their dreams, future and very own lives. The DOJ issues this stern warning," dagdag pa nito.
