In a rather unusual announcement, vtuber agency Hololive announced that its talent Amelia Watson will conclude all her channel activities at the end of the month. However, the announcement seemed to indicate that this wouldn't be a "graduation" and that she would still be affiliated with Hololive.
The term "graduation" is a term taken from the Japanese idol industry that is used to mean a retirement from the company. Hololive, in particular recently experienced one such event, with the graduation of Minato Aqua.
For Amelia Watson, however, the company has refrained from calling this event a graduation, stating that she will remain affiliated with the company. This has led to some speculation that she is transitioning to a behind-the-scenes role at Hololive.
The vtuber known as Amelia Watson joined Hololive as part of its first generation of English language streamers, known as "Myth," during the middle of the global COVID-19 pandemic. During Myth's early days, Ame as she's known to her gen-mates and fans, quickly established a reputation for being technically gifted, being able to act as tech support to her genmates and even helped them set up rudimentary motion capture at a time when most of them weren't able to access Hololive's studio due to the mandatory lockdowns.
It's stories of her behind-the-scenes actions that have led more than a few fans to speculate on her future role in the company. This is especially considering Hololive English's growth in recent years, with it recently having added a fourth generation of talent, opening a US office and of hosting its first major concert in the US — Breaking Dimensions in New York City.
In addition, Hololive's announcement doesn't seem to preclude Amelia Watson from appearing in future productions (just not on her own channel), stating that "any future activities that involve Watson Amelia will be announced through official social media and other channels."
Of course, how this will all come to pass remains to be seen, hopefully fans get some more clarification on the matter moving forward.
