Kai Del Rio Makes a Grand Comeback with First Headline Show in Nearly a Decade
Filipino singer-songwriter Kai Del Rio, previously known as Kai Honasan, is set to make an electrifying return to the music scene with her first solo headline show in nearly a decade. The much-anticipated event will take place tonight, September 13, 2024, at Sari Sari Bar in Makati City.
The former semi-finalist of "The Voice of the Philippines Season 2" is scheduled to perform her new dual singles, "Ang Nag-iisa" and "Storm Like Me," live for the first time. The songs, which showcase her musical versatility, are a testament to her evolution as an artist. "Ang Nag-iisa," released today, features a grittier sound influenced by blues and alt-rock, while "Storm Like Me," set to be released on September 20, 2024, brings listeners back to her stripped-down musical roots.
Both tracks, while distinct in their style, share a common emotional core. "When I considered returning to my solo work, I always envisioned releasing a double single as a way to showcase my duality right off the bat," Kai shares. "Nagagalit tayo at nasasaktan tayo. When you experience so much pain, you eventually experience hope. These two songs show the spectrum of rage and sadness and how it manifests differently within the same person."
Tonight's launch marks not only the live debut of these new songs, but also a reintroduction of Kai Del Rio under a new moniker, backed by a fresh record label and management team. This event signifies a new chapter in her music career with a renewed perspective on her creative process.
"I took my time because I wanted it to be as real, sincere, and authentic as possible," explains the Liwanag act. "These will be my first solo songs in a decade, and I wanted to take my time crafting them, building the right team, and finding the perfect moment. Everyone involved in these singles is not only talented but also authentic and decent."
The official launch is co-produced by Kai Del Rio, GNN Entertainment Productions, and Locked Down Entertainment, with support from Lightfirst and Underdog Music.
Kai emphasizes the importance of trust and history in this comeback, noting, "The teams behind 'Gabi Na Naman' and 'Locked Down' have been with me since my early days in the indie scene, after 'The Voice' and my time in a band. They know my story and are equally as invested in this journey as I am. I couldn't ask for better partners for this first chapter."
The show promises to be an unforgettable experience, with Kai performing alongside peers and idols from the local music industry. She hints at a unique setup for tonight's performance, moving beyond the image of the "ukulele or keytar girl" she was once known for.
"It's very different from the ukulele or keytar girl you might have met before, but I hope you're ready for the ride," Kai shares. "It's going to get real, but it's going to be a lot of fun."
